MU finished .039 of a grade point behind the Division I academic national champs
NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced that the Marquette University men's golf team has earned the GCAA Team Academic Award with Presidents Special Recognition.Â
The Golden Eagles finished the academic year with a team grade-point average of 3.804, led by perfect 4.0 GPAs from Max Lyons and Nicolás Evangelio during the spring semester. The Presidents Special Recognition honor is given to squads finishing with a team GPA of 3.5 and above.Â
Marquette has earned the team academic honor every year since 2011-12. To be eligible for GCAA Outstanding Team Academic honors a college or university must submit GPAs for each player on their official squad list for the academic year.
This honor continues a week-long parade of academic accolades for the Golden Eagles, who were recognized as the BIG EAST Conference Team Academic Excellence Award winner for men's golf on Wednesday. All nine individuals on MU's 2022-23 squad earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team recognition and the five members of MU's lineup last season, Lyons, Evangelio, Tyler Leach, Josh Robinson and Bhoom Sima-Aree, are GCAA All-America Scholars.
Sacred Heart (NCAA Division I), Florida Southern (NCAA Division II), Kentucky State (HBCU), Carleton (NCAA Division III), South Carolina Beaufort (NAIA), Andrew (NJCAA Division I), and South Mountain (NJCAA Division II) were all named 2022-23 Academic National Champions for finishing with the top GPA in their respective divisions, announced today by the GCAA.Â
