Golden Eagles close three-match road swing at butler
MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University men's soccer team (6-1-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) will close a three-match road swing on Saturday, September 23 as the team travels to Butler (1-4-1, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) for a 6:00 p.m. CT BIG EAST matchup.Â
Golden Eagles Earn Draw In Annual Milwaukee Cup Â
The Golden Eagles concluded the 2023 Milwaukee Cup vs UW-Milwaukee in a 1-1 draw at Engelmann Stadium Tuesday night.Â
With a physical start to the match, the Golden Eagles committed a foul in the box in the fourth minute resulting in a Milwaukee penalty kick that found the back of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage.Â
In the 62nd minute freshman Ryan Amond slotted a home ball and sent it to back of the net to tie the score at 1-1. The goal was Amond's second goal of the season and was assisted by Abdoul Karim Pare and Kyle Bebej.
With the result of the draw, Marquette retains possession of the "Milwaukee Cup" until next season's contest. MU won the 2022 matchup 5-2 at Valley Fields.
Marquette Offense Ranks Top-Five In NCAA Division IÂ
With 21 goals, MU strung together six-straight wins to open the season, suffering just one lost and posting one draw in their last outing vs. Milwaukee. Â Â
The Golden Eagles have had no shortage of offense this season, scoring a season high of six goals against Detroit Mercy. Tied at the number three spot in NCAA DI goals scored (21), 11 different players have scored for Marquette this season.

Featuring depth in the scoring column, three players have scored two goals in three matches for the Golden Eagles. Brooklyn Merl continues to anchor the Blue and Gold's attack as he has scored in four out of the seven matches this season. Â

The series history between Marquette and Butler began during the 1990 campaign. Saturday's matchup between the Golden Eagles and Bulldogs will be played in Indianapolis where Butler holds an all time 4-1-1 advantage over Marquette. MU dropped the last contest between the two squads 1-3 at Valley Fields in Milwaukee. Â
