Wesley Matthews to be honored at halftime for HOF selection
The No. 14/15 Marquette University men's basketball team (14-5, 5-3 BIG EAST)  returns home to host Seton Hall (13-7, 6-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 12 p.m. CT.  FS1 features the television broadcast, with Matt Schumacker (play-by-play) and Kim Adams (analyst) calling the action.  Following Saturday's action, the Golden Eagles will open a two-game road swing at Villanova on Jan. 30.  MU is in the midst of a stretch that has the team on the road in 6-of-8 outings in BIG EAST action.
Series With Seton Hall Dates Back To 1956
    
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series with Seton Hall, 23-14, with all but one of the matchups coming after MU joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06.
    
]SHU opened the series with a 96-78 victory over Marquette on March 17, 1956 in MU's first-ever appearance in the National Invitation Tournament in New York. The next meeting wouldn't come until 50 years later when Marquette moved to the BIG EAST.
    
The Pirates claimed the first meeting this season, 78-75, on Jan. 6 in the Prudential Center. Forward Oso Ighodaro led three players in double figures with 22 points, but MU was unable to rally for the victory after trailing by as many as 10 points in the closing minutes.
    
Marquette, which concludes its season series with Seton Hall on Saturday, has yet to face UConn or Xavier in 2023-24.
Joplin Loves Long-Distance Calls From 312
    
Marquette's David Joplin netted a season-high 21 points in Wednesday's win at DePaul, his second-straight effort of 20-or-more points at Wintrust Arena.
    
In the last two outings in Chicago, Joplin has combined to shoot 14-of-19 from behind the 3-point line, highlighted by a career-best 28-point night on Jan. 28, 2023. On Wednesday, Joplin was 6-of-8 from long distance and made all three free throws when fouled on another attempt. The Golden Eagles knocked down a season-high 15 triples, nearly matching the total (18) of the previous three games combined.
    
The Milwaukee native's 21 points marked a personal-best since last year's win at DePaul, a span of 32 outings.
Kolek Returns To Form In Recent Outings
    
Since scoring a total of just seven points in back-to-back losses to Seton Hall and Butler, All-American guard Tyler Kolek has returned to form in the team's last three outings.
    
In the last three victories, Kolek is averaging 19.3 points 9.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 21-of-40 (52.5 percent) from the floor. He owns a pair of double-doubles (Villanova and St. John's) and finished with 22 points and seven assists in the win over DePaul.
    
Kolek now owns eight-career double-doubles, including five in 2023-24.
Ighodaro Stepping Up Contributions
    
Marquette forward Oso Ighodaro collected one of his best all-around games of the season in the win over DePaul, flirting with a triple-double in the process.
    
The Chandler, Arizona, native finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes of action to earn his fifth-career double-double.
    
In his last five games, Ighodaro is averaging 17.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 71.7 percent (38-of-53) from the floor and 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) from the charity stripe.
    
Ighodaro has reached double figures in scoring in 9-of-10 outings.
