Golden Eagles final race before BIG EAST Championships
MILWAUKEE ā Marquette University cross country heads to Peoria, Illinois on Friday for the Bradley Pink Classic in the final race before the BIG EAST Championships.
"We are really looking forward to seeing where we stack up," Associate Head Cross Country Coach Jack Hackett said. "We get to see a few of our BIG EAST rivals and a few of our local rivals. It's our first big meet of the season and I'm excited to see the progress."
The Golden Eagles will compete alongside 49 other teams at Newman Golf Course, including BIG EAST members Butler, DePaul, and Xavier.
The race has two divisions for the men and women. The men's white division 8k begins at 1:30 p.m. CT, while the red starts at 3 p.m. CT. The women's white division 6k starts at 2:15 p.m. CT and the red at 3:45 p.m. CT. Live results will be available at ShazamRacing.com. The race will be broadcast on ESPN+.
"We are at the high water mark for training for this season, and minus a few athletes we have the entire team training together. That itself is a huge step, you can't run fast if you don't get to the line."
Marquette last competed on Oct. 4 at the Blugold Invite in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
"The team has come a long ways from where we were last year. At Eau Claire on a challenging course after lifting, we had almost everyone run PRs. We've had another great week of training and are ready to run fast and compete."
The Golden Eagles were led by Emma Coon on the women's side for the third race in a row. The sophomore from De Pere, Wisconsin set a new 6k PR at 22:45.8.
The men were paced by Edgar Valles for the second race this fall. The freshman from El Paso, Texas set a new 8k PR at 25:33.0 to finish 24th.
