Golden Eagles honored 12 members of senior class on Sunday
The Marquette University women's soccer team (5-11-3, 2-6-1 BIG EAST) wrapped up the home portion of the regular season schedule with a 2-1 setback against No. 25 Xavier (14-2-2, 7-1-1 BIG EAST) on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Â
After falling behind 1-0 in the 10th minute, the Golden Eagles responded with a score of their own two minutes later. Senior Kate Gibson finished from inside of the box after the XU netminder's clearance found the feet of Julia O'Neill, who quickly found Gibson all alone for the quick shot.
Â
The Musketeer what would prove to be the game winner at the 55:46 mark, finishing a shot from distance into the upper-right corner of the net after a Marquett turnover.
Â
Netmider Chloe Olson finished with seven saves, including multiple point-blank chances from XU's Samantha Erbach.
"On senior day we were excited to not only acknowledge the 12 players, but also have the group put in an outstanding performance," head coach Chris Allen said. "We were able to start and end the match with 11 seniors on the field and that was special. Molly Keiper has done a great job all season long on the sidelines being vocal and pumping the team up and today was no different."
