First BIG EAST Championship of the season set for Nov. 1 in Leesburg, Virginia
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University cross country heads to Leesburg, Virginia for the 2024 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Friday.
"As a team, we are really excited to head to BIG EAST," Associate Head Cross Country Coach Jack Hackett said. "We have improved so much as a team and I know we are all looking forward to getting to show that fitness."
Co-hosted by Georgetown and Trials for Miles, the conference championship will be at Morven Park. Championship Friday gets started at 9 a.m. CT with the women's 6k race. The men's 8k race begins at 9:50 a.m. CT. An awards presentation will be at 10:40 a.m. CT.
The championships will be broadcast on the Big East Digital Network on FloSports. Live results will be through WindsorRunning.
Last time out, Marquette competed at the Bradley Pink Classic, competing against 50 teams at Newman Golf Course. Logan Goodman paced the men for the second time this fall, while Emma Coon led the women's side for the fourth time in as many races.
The women's team PR'd by an average of 30 seconds and the men bested their times by an average of 5 seconds.
"The issue we face is that the conference is one of the most competitive in the country and everyone has improved over the course of the fall," Hackett said. "For us to move up, we'll have to run really well and we know we are capable of it."
"What we have talked about the entire season is to focus on our team and get better every day. As a group, we have done that. Every athlete has gotten stronger and faster, and when each person improves, they push the person in front of them to do the same."
