Golden Eagles back to BIG EAST play Saturday vs Providence
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team (6-4-2, 2-1-0 BIG EAST) earned a 1-1 draw against Milwaukee (5-2-4, 1-2-1 Horizon) Tuesday evening in the 50th Milwaukee Cup.
In the 12th minute, junior midfielder Gabe Anguil knocked one off the right post, giving the Golden Eagles their first good look of the night.
In the 35th minute the Panthers found the back of the net, which was first called offside in the box and no goal, but after VAR the officials determined that the ball was touched by a MU player which resulted in a fair goal for Milwaukee.
Marquette finished the first half with three shots, two of which were on goal.
"I thought early on we gave ourselves a really good chance outside of giving up the goal late in the first half," head coach David Korn said. "I really like how aggressive we came out in the second half and proud of Grant (Locker) for staying assertive because he had opportunities in the first half, and he made sure to finish his chance in the second scoring his first goal of the season."
The second half started with the Golden Eagles showing more pressure and attacking the backline of Milwaukee with multiple opportunities to score.
MU found the back of the net as freshman midfielder Grant Locker netted a goal coming off a cross from Tim Smith that a Panther player disturbed right to Locker in the 82nd minute.
Both teams finished the half with opportunities at the goal but were unable to strike again.
Marquette finished the second half with 13 shots to Milwaukee's four.
