MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team's (6-5-2, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon matchup vs Providence (7-4-2, 2-1-1 BIG EAST) resulted in an early ending due to weather and lightning in the area.
Per NCAA rule any match that is stopped after 70 minutes have been played can be finalized and statistics from the match are counted.
Both programs started the match battling for possession in the midfield looking for scoring opportunities but were unable to do so through the first half.
MU had two scoring opportunities early the first half by Tim Smith and Abdoul Karim Pare but could not find the back of the net.
In the second half, Providence found the back of the net in the 47th minute and took a 1-0 advantage just before the game was delayed due to weather and lightning in the area.
After an hour delay, the two teams resumed play on the field. Marquette turned it's pressure up being aggressive and controlling the possession for majority of the second half that was played.
In the 73rd minute the match was ended due to serve weather and lightning in the area.
Marquette finished the match with more shots (9) and shots on goal (5) than Providence but feel short in 73 minutes of play.
