Golden Eagles hosted students-only game at Al McGuire Center
MILWAUKEE – The No. 18/17 Marquette men's basketball team pulled away late to beat George Mason Friday night, 82-63, in front of a sold out Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (2-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by the senior duo of Kam Jones and David Joplin who combined for 51 of MU's 82 points.
Marquette started on a 13-0 run the first three minutes of the game but the Patriots battled back the rest of the half to lead by one at the break, 37-36.
A Joplin 3-pointer at the 16:46 mark of the second half tied it up 41-41. A Chase Ross breakaway dunk 30 seconds later gave MU the lead they'd protect the rest of the way. Marquette went on a 16-2 run to end the game.
George Mason (1-1, 0-0 A10) was led by Darius Maddox, who had 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
