Golden Eagles return to action Dec. 14 at Dayton
MILWAUKEE – The No. 5/4 Marquette University men's basketball team (9-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) defeated the No. 11/11 Wisconsin Badgers, 88-74, on Saturday afternoon at Fiserv Forum.
Over the first half, Marquette and Wisconsin traded the lead nine times. The Golden Eagles shot 44% from the field, led by senior guard Kam Jones' 13 points first half points.
The momentum shifted at the 17-minute mark of the second half when senior forward David Joplin nailed a three, giving the Golden Eagles a two-point lead. From that point on, Marquette held onto its lead, going on a 28-15 run over the next 10 minutes.
During the run, the Golden Eagles shot 58% from the field. Marquette led by double digits for the last 10 minutes and nine seconds of game action.
The Golden Eagles were led by Jones, who had 32 points (19 in the second half), six assists, and a career-high tying four steals.
Wisconsin (8-2, 0-1 Big Ten) was led by senior guard Max Klesmit, who had 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

- Sixth career 30-point game for Kam Jones and second this season. Jones scored 32 in MU's season opening win over Stony Brook.
- Third time Kam Jones has scored 19-or-more points against Wisconsin. The senior guard averaged 20.5 points against the Badgers over his career.
- Four Marquette players scored in double digits for the fourth time this season.
- The game saw 19 lead changes and 10 ties over the first 24 minutes of game action.
- The Golden Eagles had a season-low five turnovers, the third time this season Marquette had single digit turnovers.
- Fifth time since 2011 Marquette had five or fewer turnovers in a game, and first time since last season's win over Villanova on March 14, 2023 in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament when MU had five.
- Third win this season after trailing at halftime.
- First win over Wisconsin in the Shaka Smart era.
Marquette returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. CT when the team travels to Dayton.
