Weise clinches victory at No. 5 for Golden Eagles
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team edges UWM, 4-3 in thriller Wednesday afternoon at Elite Sports Club (River Glen).
Seniors Andie Weise and Lara Kaiser opened doubles play with a win at No. 1 (6-2), UWM took a 6-3 win at No. 2 moments after. Coming down to the tie-breaker set, a hard-fought battle at No. 3 ended with UWM taking a narrow 6-4 victory to earn the doubles point to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Senior Sarah Badawi earned the first point for the Golden Eagles with a straight set victory at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4).
Emilija Kojcic took the second point for Marquette at the No. 1 position. Kojcic earned her victory in straight-set fashion (6-3, 6-4).
At the No. 6 position, Kaiser earned the third point for the Golden Eagles in straight set fashion (6-3, 6-3) to tie the team scores at 3-3.
The cross-town rivalry came down to the No. 5 spot, with Weise edging her opponent in the third set with a 6-4 win, giving Marquette it's first victory on the season.
UP NEXT: Marquette will host Omaha to take on Friday at 2:00 pm CT at Elite Sports Club (North Shore).
