Golden Eagles won last year's meeting at Valley Fields
Marquette women's lacrosse heads to Louisville for a matchup with the University of Louisville on Friday, Feb. 16 in the first road test of the season. Faceoff from UofL Lacrosse Stadium is at 11 a.m. CT.
Friday's game will be broadcast on ACCNX with Jody Demling and Dennis Truman on the call.
It will be the 13th meeting all-time between Marquette and Louisville, with the Cardinals leading the all-time series, 10-2.
Marquette won last year's contest, 15-11, at Valley Fields on March 19, 2023. Meg Bireley and Tess Osburn each had three goals while Leigh Steiner added three points (2 goals, 1 assist).
MEG BIG EAST ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
• Meg Bireley was named BIG EAST Attacker of the Week in the conference's first weekly awards of the season on Monday.
• The Glenville, Illinois native scored a career-high seven goals in the 18-12 season-opening win over Cincinnati on Sunday. It was her 26th career game with multiple goals in her career.Â
• Seven goals ties the second-most goals in a game in program history set by Megan Menzuber and Lydia Foust (twice).
• Bireley's seven points were a single game career-high. She also had career-highs in shots (12) and shots on goal (10).
MEG MOVES UP ON CAREER LISTS
• Meg Bireley moved into the top 10 all-time in career goals. The junior has 82 career goals and passed Caroline Steller who had 77 from 2017-21.
• Bireley also moved into ninth all-time on the career shots list with 192 for her career.
HUBER EARNS A SPOT ON WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
• Kaitlyn Huber earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career.
• The senior had career-highs in caused turnovers (3), grounds balls (2) and draw controls (1).
JOSIE HITS 100 CAREER DCs
• Senior Josie Kropp hit 100 career draw controls on Sunday after having six in the win over Cincinnati.
• Kropp moved into ninth all-time in career draw controls.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT IN ATTACKÂ
• Riley Schultz (Castle Rock, Colo.) and CJ Meehan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) both scored in their collegiate debut on Sunday against Cincinnati.
• Meehan's goal came on her lone free position shot of the game. Shultz scored less than five minutes into her debut and led the team in ground balls with three.
FRESHMAN DEBUTS
• Four freshmen made their collegiate debut on Saturday, including Mary Velner (Edina, Minn.) and Riley Jenkins (Winnetka, Ill.).
• Velner came in as a sub in defense while Jenkins had two shots, one on goal, from the midfield.
