All-Time Series Dates Back To 1922-23
Marquette's all-time series against Creighton spans nearly the entirety of the program's 104-year history.
The Golden Eagles own a 59-39 advantage in the all-time series, but the Bluejays have claimed seven of the last 11 outings.
Prior to 2013-14, when the Bluejays joined the BIG EAST, the most recent meeting between the two programs came in the 1998 National Invitation Tournament. MU posted an 80-68 victory in the opening round at the Bradley Center en route to an appearance in the event's quarterfinals.
The Golden Eagles claimed a 72-67 victory over the Bluejays at Fiserv Forum on Dec. 30 in the first meeting this season. Guard Tyler Kolek led four players in double figures with 15 points and eight assists and guard Sean Jones chipped in a career-best 15 points off the bench.
BIG EAST Play Hits Stretch Run
Marquette continues the final two weeks of BIG EAST play with a 13-4 record, currently good enough for sole possession of second place in the 11-team league through games of Feb. 28.
Wednesday's victory over Providence allowed the Golden Eagles to secure a first-round bye in the league tournament and team can't finish any lower than fourth with three games remaining. Saturday's matchup at Creighton (12-6) could put the winner in the driver's seat to claim the No. 2 seed.
MU has three games (at Creighton, vs. UConn, at Xavier) remaining in the regular season, but the Bluejays have just two (vs. Marquette, at Villanova).
Marquette Completes Successful Homestand
Marquette wrapped up a successful three-game homestand on Wednesday night with a 91-69 win over Providence.
The Golden Eagles won each of the three matchups (DePaul, Xavier, PC) by at least 22 points, marking the first time since the program joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06 the team has claimed three-straight conference games by 20-or-more points.
Marquette was impressive at both ends of the court in the three outings at Fiserv Forum, shooting 54.8 percent from the floor overall and 43.4 percent from behind the 3-point line as a team. Defensively, MU held opposing squads to just 38.9 percent from the floor and 30.8 percent from deep, forcing 17.7 turnovers per contest.
Kam Jones led the way offensively, averaging 28.3 points per game while shooting 66.7 (30-of-45) from the floor and 15-of-24 (62.5) from deep.
Bench Provides Scoring Lift vs. Friars
Led by Chase Ross (12 points), Tre Norman (eight points) and Ben Gold (six points), Marquette's bench unit combined to contribute 29 points in Wednesday's win over Providence, marking a high in BIG EAST play this season.
Norman netted a career-best eight points, all in the first half, knocking down a pair of treys to match his season total entering the game. He also chipped in two rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in 18 minutes. Gold finished with six points and also matched personal bests in blocks (3) and assists (3).
Marquette netted a season-high 35 bench points in the win over Southern on Nov. 28.
