Golden Eagles to face UConn in BIG EAST championship at 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday

The No. 10/10 Marquette University men's basketball team (25-8, 14-6 BIG EAST) continued play at the BIG EAST Tournament with a 79-68 against Providence (21-13, 10-10 BIG EAST) on Friday night in Madison Square Garden in the semifinals.
Guard Kam Jones scored 20 points and forward Oso Ighodaro added 20 points to lead Marquette offensively.
Marquette moved ahead by as many as 14 points in the second half, before the Friars started to climb their way back into the game. MU was shooting less than 30 percent from the floor with 3:50 left. The Friars closed to within two points on a free throw with 3:39 left in regulation.
The Golden Eagles led by as many as 17 points in the first half, 35-18 with 4:11 left until the intermission. MU broke the game open with a 17-2 run and held a 42-31 advantage at the break. MU shot 55.8 percent from the floor and three players (Jones, Joplin, Ighodaro) were in double figures in points.
