QUEENS, New York – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team began BIG EAST Conference play at St. John's on Saturday with a 13-9 loss at Belson Stadium.
Junior attackman Bobby O'Grady scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game and the Golden Eagles (4-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the opening quarter.
The Red Storm (4-7, 1-0 BIG EAST) answered with a 9-1 run before O'Grady's third goal with 6:46 remaining in the third frame to pull MU back within a pair, 9-7. SJU would scored the next three goals to build a commanding five-goal lead, 12-7, just 55 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Nolan Rappis and Will Foster scored late fourth quarter tallies for MU before a Caleb Zuhoski goal with 1:46 remaining provided the game's final score for the Red Storm.

NOTABLE:
- MU attackman Devon Cowan scored his lone goal of the day at the 4:32 mark of the first quarter to put MU ahead 5-0. He is now just one goal from becoming the third player in MU history to reach 100 in a career.
- MU out-shot SJU, 46-32, and won 14-of-25 faceoffs.
- Marquette leads the all-time series with St. John's, 10-2, and had won each of the last 10 meetings prior to Saturday. The win is SJU's first against MU since 2013. MU is 5-2 all-time against SJU in New York and this season marks the first game at Belson Stadium between the two programs.
