WASHINGTON – Graduate faceoff specialist Luke Williams won 19-of-22 faceoffs on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field against No. 6/9 Georgetown, but the Marquette University men's lacrosse team fell, 11-8, despite an early fourth quarter comeback.
Junior midfielder Will Foster scored two of his career-best five goals in the first three minutes of the fourth to tie the game, 7-7, before four-straight markers from the Hoyas.
"I'm proud of the effort and toughness displayed by our guys today against an excellent Georgetown team," Marquette head coach Andrew Stimmel said. "I really thought Luke and Will had big-time games. We were right there in the fourth but just didn't have enough today to get it done. We will continue to improve and have another great opportunity next week against Providence."
The Golden Eagles (4-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) led 3-1 midway through the first quarter, but allowed Georgetown to mount a 6-1 run heading into the final frame.
The Hoyas (8-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) were led by two goals apiece from Aidan Carroll, Alexander Vardaro and Patrick Crogan and goalie Anderson Moore made 14 saves in net.
