Golden Eagles earn No. 3 seed in BIG EAST tournament

The No. 8/9 Marquette University men's basketball team (23-8, 14-6 BIG EAST) wrapped up the regular season with an 86-80 win at Xavier (15-16, 9-11 BIG EAST) on Saturday evening in the Cintas Center.
The victory earns Marquette the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST tournament and the team will play the 6/11 winner at 8:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 14.
Forward Oso Ighodaro finished with a career-high 24 points and guard Kam Jones chipped in 30 points, nine assists and five rebounds.
The Musketeers opened the second half with a 17-8 run, courtesy of 6-of-7 shooting from the floor, and led by as many as six points to force a Marquette timeout. Ighodaro helped MU claw back despite battling foul trouble along with Chase Ross and David Joplin.
The Golden Eagles led by as many as nine points, but the advantage was just 37-33 at the intermission. Jones led the way with a first-half season-high 18 points for the Golden Eagles, who made their last five shots to finish at 48.4 percent from the floor. Jones and Ighodaro combined to score 31 of the team's 37 points.
