WSOC Falls 3-0 At Colorado In Season Opener

Golden Eagles host Kansas City Sunday at 12 p.m. CT in home opener
The Marquette University women's soccer team (0-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) dropped its 2024 season opener 3-0 at Colorado (1-0-0, 0-0-0 Big 12) on Thursday night at Prentup Field.
Â
Netminder Elise Krone, a transfer from TCU who didn't see action in 2023, finished with seven saves in her collegiate debut.
Â
Marquette finished with 10 shots on goal and finished with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
"We were really proud of our performance for about 55 minutes," head coach Chris Allen said. "I thought we played to our identity and started building our foundation stylistically. That's what makes the last 35 minutes so tough to swallow.
"Credit to Colorado, as it took advantage of moments, whereas we did not," Allen added. "We are leaving Boulder confident that we can hang with NCAA-tournament caliber teams, now we just need to find ways to break through and put the ball in the back of the net."
Â
The Golden Eagles controlled possession the opening 10 minutes of the contest, but saw Colorado convert on its first shot on goal, heading home a cross from eight yards out just inside the far post.
Â
Marquette had a handful of quality chances throughout the match, but was unable to collect the equalizer and Colorado eventually moved ahead 2-0 on a rebounded penalty kick just over 70 minutes into the match.
