O'Connell Earns BIG EAST Honors
Senior midfielder Tess O'Connell was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 23 after netting a pair of goals in the team's 5-0 win over St. Thomas.
O'Connell, who leads the team with four goals, also netted a pair against Mercyhurst on Sept. 12.
The Wilmington, Mass., native now owns five-career goals in 77 outings at Rhode Island (66) and MU (11).
Murphy Makes Most Of First Start
Senior Carina Murphy made her first-career start in the win over St. Thomas and also netted her first-ever goal in the match.
The Germantown, Wisconsin native knocked home a deflected corner-kick service for the team's fourth score in her 28th appearance dating back to 2021.
Krone Busy At Butler
Starting for the first time since Aug. 25 at Western Michigan, netminder Elise Krone was busy last Sunday at Butler.
Krone finished the day with a personal-best 10 saves, the 10th-highest single-game total in school history.
Marquette fell, 1-0, in the league opener, with the lone score coming on a corner kick that bounced off the back of a Butler player.
Lineup Featuring New Faces
Through the first 11 matches of the year, 21 different players have earned at least one starting assignment and of that group, 12 have made their respective first-ever starts for Marquette (multiple collegiate debuts).
Just five players - Emily Fix, Tess O'Connell, Adrianna Alberts, Kiara Clarke and Mia Haertle have started all 11 matches.
Injuries have also been a factor in lineup combinations, with 11 players missing at least one match, including a trio (Ruhland, Downs, Keiper) who are done for the season.
MU Honors Dr. Lovell In 2024
The women's soccer team, and all programs at MU, will honor former president Dr. Michael R. Lovell (LUV-uhl) this season by wearing patches on its uniforms in 2024-25.
Dr. Lovell passed away in June after a courageous battle with cancer and was a tremendous ambassador for the university and greater Milwaukee community.
Dr. Lovell served at MU for 10 years and was a strong supporter of all the student-athletes at the university and a familiar face in the crowd at hundreds of competitions.
Creighton Series Dates To 1993
The Golden Eagles' series with Creighton dates back to the 1993 campaign, with MU currently holding a slim 7-6-3 advantage.
Hailey Block netted a pair of scores in the most recent matchup, a 3-1 win by Marquette in Omaha on Sept. 28, 2023.
