
MTEN Drops 4-3 Decision At Illinois State

Ahmad and Blagoev record first Golden Eagles singles victories
The Marquette University men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Illinois State on Sunday afternoon in Normal, Illinois.
Illinois State opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, giving them a 1-0 advantage heading into singles action. The duo of Blake Roegner and Cyrus Ahmad won their match at the No. 1 spot (6-4).
Freshman Cyrus Ahmad recorded his first singles victory of his career at the No. 2 position in straight-set fashion (6-2, 6-2), evening the team score at 1-1.
The Redbirds went on to secure the team victory by winning three singles matches at the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots.
Roegner took his singles matchup to three sets and scored the second point for the Golden Eagles at the No. 1 spot (6-7, 6-2, 10-8).
Freshman Kristian Blagoev notched his first dual competition victory as a Golden Eagle in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-4), giving Marquette its third point of the match.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will be back in action in the Windy City at UIC at 3:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 24.
