Golden Eagles notch first victory in Sprovieri Tennis Complex home opener
MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University women's tennis team downed BIG EAST foe Providence, 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the new Sprovieri Tennis Complex.

The Golden Eagles opened the match by taking the important doubles point. Andie Weise and Tiera Jarmond played at no. 1 taking a 6-2 win while Aiyana Abbott and Emma Davis took a 6-1 win at no. 2.

Abbott recorded her first Golden Eagles dual singles win at no. 4 in straight set fashion (6-1, 7-5). The win gave MU a 2-0 team advantage over the Friars.

At no. 2 Jarmond picked up a singles victory in straight set fashion (6-3, 6-2), to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead over Providence.

Graduate student Andie Weise pulled off a comeback victory at no. 1 in three sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-3) which served as the clinching point for Marquette to earn its first win of the season.

Emma Davis recorded her first singles win of the season at no. 3 in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 team score advantage.

Providence took a straight set win at no. 6 to get on the board, scoring its first team point of the match.
The Friars took the singles match at no. 6 in tiebreak fashion, finishing the match 5-2.Â

UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will host Illinois State February 1 at 2 p.m. CT and Milwaukee the following day February 2 at 11 a.m. at Sprovieri Tennis Complex.
