Golden Eagles look to bounce back after last week’s set back
The Marquette University women's soccer team (6-5-4, 2-2-3 BIG EAST) begins their three-game BIG EAST Conference road trip at Providence (4-6-3, 1-4-2 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 5:00 p.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles will face another nationally ranked team in Xavier (12-2-2, 7-0-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 5:00 p.m. CT.
Marquette Chasing Final Spot
With only three BIG EAST matches remaining, Marquette is looking to secure the final berth in the conference tournament.
The Golden Eagles currently trail Villanova by three points for the fourth and final spot. Marquette will need to handle business in its remaining matches and get some help from Georgetown, Providence, and Butler to keep its postseason hopes alive.

The week began with a road trip to Villanova on Oct. 15, where Marquette fell 3-0. The Wildcats scored twice in the opening 11 minutes and added another after halftime off a corner kick. Marquette generated six first-half shots (three on goal) but couldn't find the back of the net, marking its first loss since Sept. 4.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Golden Eagles hosted No. 13 Georgetown for Alumni Night at Valley Fields and dropped another 3-0 decision. The Hoyas scored in the 16th minute, converted a penalty kick before halftime, and added a third just before the break. Marquette tallied seven corner kicks (five in the second half) but was limited to three total shots as Georgetown's defense held strong.

Through matches of Oct. 18, Marquette ranks among the top offensive teams in the BIG EAST, sitting third in goals (26), goals per game (1.73), total shots (196), shots on goal (96), and shots on goal per game (6.40).
Defensively, the Golden Eagles rank eighth in goals allowed per game (1.47) and eighth in total saves (40). Marquette has allowed just 62 shots on frame, with opponents converting only 38.0 percent of their total attempts (163) into shots on goal.

Marquette's all-time series with Providence dates back to 2005, with the Golden Eagles holding a 12-5-3 advantage. Last season's 2-1 win snapped a five-match winless streak against the Friars.
The Golden Eagles will look to secure back-to-back victories over Providence for the first time since 2015–16.
