
MSOC Cruises to 4-1 Win Over DePaul

Four Golden Eagles find the back of the net.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Following a penalty kick from Nico Pendleton in the opening 20 minutes, the Marquette men's soccer team (7-5-2, 1-5-0) controlled the remaining 70 minutes against DePaul on Saturday at Valley Fields en route to a 4-1 win. Pendleton finished with a team-high points three points on the night.
MU was efficient in front of goal through, putting eight of its 13 shots on target with half of those on frame finding the back of the net.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the 18th minute after Mads Konrad Horgøien was taken down after looking to break free in the 18-yard box. A penalty kick ensued, and Pendleton calmly stepped up and struck it inside the left post.
MU took the 1-0 advantage into the break after a tight 45 minutes but seized control in the second half. Just over six minutes into the half, Gabe Anguil got free down the right flank, cut inside into the box, and ripped a shot that popped up to Horgøien on the edge of the six for a tap in past the keeper.
Mateo Stoka added a third in the 65th minute. Pendleton slotted a pass to Stoka at the top of the box. One touch to side step a defender, the senior went left side past a diving Blue Demon keeper.
Piling up the shots in the second half with 10 during the final 40 minutes, Joey Buchanan scored the Golden Eagles' fourth goal of the evening with nine minutes to play. A cross from Ryan Amond near the right touchline found the head of Buchanan who buried it in the back of the net.
With the match firmly in hand, Joon Han ended the shutout in the 88th minute, scoring on a penalty kick for DePaul.

Marquette returns to the road next week, traveling to Akron on Nov. 1. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. CT.
