Golden Eagles head to Akron on Saturday
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -  Coming off a pair of wins last week Marquette University men's soccer team (7-5-2, 1-5-0 BIG EAST) travels to Akron on Saturday for its final road match of the season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CT at First Energy Stadium.
Collecting Honors
For the first time this season, Marquette had two players earn weekly honors from the BIG EAST. Joey Buchanan was named Freshman of the Week after recording a goal (vs. DePaul) and an assist (vs. Edgewood) last week. Nico Pendleton was tabbed to the Weekly Honor Roll after assisting on the match-winner against Edgewood and tallying three points in the 4-1 win over DePaul.
Windy City Blues
Marquette has hosted three opponents from Chicago this season. Each time the Golden Eagles have sent the visitors back to the Windy City with a loss.
Those three matches have also been MU's largest scoring outputs of the season. Thirteen of Marquette's 25 goals on the year have come against Chicago State (4-0), UIC (5-4) and DePaul (4-1).
Finding winners
Mads Konrad Horgøien has had a penchant for finding the back of the net when the Golden Eagles have needed it. Half of the sophomore's goals been match-winners. His three winners rank No. 20 nationally and is tied for the most in the BIG EAST.
Unbeaten No More
In a wild nine-goal contest on Oct. 7, Marquette outlasted previously unbeaten UIC, 5-4. Braces from Nico Pendelton and Mads Konrad Horgøien propelled the Golden Eagles past the Flames which entered the match at 7-0-3.
Horgøien scored MU's final two goals, his third and fourth of the season.
Helping the cause, goalkeeper Cameron Simpson produced a pair of penalty stops in the opening 40 minutes.
High Five
Marquette's five-goal outing against UIC marked its fourth straight season with a match in which it scored at least five goals. Prior to the recent stretch, the Golden Eagles had scored five or more in a match in just six seasons dating back to 2000.
51st Milwaukee Cup Champs
The Marquette University men's soccer team scored two goals in the final ten minutes to win 3-2 over Milwaukee in the 51st Milwaukee Cup on Sept. 23.
The Golden Eagles netted three goals in the second half, started by Grant Locker in the 50th minute. It was the second-straight year Locker scored in the Milwaukee Cup.
Mads Konrad Horgøien scored his second goal of the season off a volley in the 81st minute that was assisted by Antonio Costabile and Kyle Bebej.
Two minutes later Tristan Rønnestad-Stevens gave MU the lead off a rebound for his first goal of his career.

The 2025 season is the second season for David Korn as the head coach for the Golden Eagles men's soccer team.
The Golden Eagles went 6-7-4 (2-4-2 BIG EAST) during Korn's first year in Milwaukee. Marquette players earned five BIG EAST weekly honors in 2024.
Before coming to Marquette, Korn spent eight seasons at NCAA Division II Maryville University in St. Louis.
