Dorfman nets a pair of goals, Leigh and Fix add scores
The Marquette University women's soccer team (6-3-2, 2-0-2 BIG EAST) wrapped up a two-match homestand with a 4-1 victory against DePaul (3-8-1, 0-3-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday night at Valley Fields.
The victory allowed the Golden Eagles to remain undefeated in league play and the team is now in sole possession of fourth place in the BIG EAST standings through matches of Oct. 4.
The match was scoreless at the intermission, but the Golden Eagles controlled possession, finishing with a 7-1 advantage in shots, including a pair on frame.
The slow offensive start to the match didn't impact MU out of the break as freshman Coco Dorfman found the back of the net on a pair of occasions in the opening minutes to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. The first came on a header just 45 seconds into the second stanza and two minutes later she poked home a rebound for her third score of the season.
"I've never had that happen in my soccer career before, scoring two goals so quickly," Dorfman said. "It was great to see the team execute right away to start the half and claim momentum the rest of the way."
Forward Jocelyn Leigh drew a penalty kick at the 75:27 mark and converted for her team-leading sixth goal of the campaign to make it 3-0 and five minutes later she assisted on junior Emily Fix's second score of the season.
Marquette was dominant on both sides of the ball the entire evening, finishing with a 21-4 advantage in shots and an 8-0 margin in corner kicks.
"I thought we had a phenomenal second half," head coach Chris Allen said. "We started on the front foot and shifted into a different gear and stayed on it. Really proud of our effort, intensity and execution."
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles travel to UConn on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. CT to continue BIG EAST play.
