Mendoza records her first career win and clinch
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team earned a 4-2 victory over Dayton at the Sprovieri Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by securing the crucial doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, taking a 1-0 lead.
Tiera Jarmond opened singles play with a straight-set victory at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4) and remains undefeated at the Sprovieri Tennis Complex.
Dayton earned a singles win at No. 3 to score its first team point of the match.
Joelle Fiallo Schad claimed her second win of the season at No. 4 in straight sets (6-2, 7-5) to give MU a 3-1 lead.
In back-and-forth singles action, Dayton earned a team point with a win at No. 2, making the match score 3-2.
Luciana Mendoza secured her first career win and clinch at the No. 5 spot in two sets (6-2, 6-1), giving MU the winning team point.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will travel to Drake on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. matchup.
