
Bireley’s Career Night Powers Marquette Past Niagara on Friday Night

Golden Eagles host No. 3 Northwestern next Friday at Valley Fields
The Marquette University women's lacrosse team continued non-conference play on Friday night with a 16-11 win over Niagara at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles (4-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by Meg Bireley, who had a career-high nine points with six goals and a career-high three assists. Tess Osburn had a career-high six points with four goals and a career-high tying two assists.
Lauren Grady had a career-high five points and her first career-hat trick. Brynna Nixon earned her third win of the season and had 10 saves, one off her career high.
No team had a greater lead than one goal in the first half until the Golden Eagles scored four unanswered the last five minutes of the second quarter to lead by three at half, 8-5.
The Purple Eagles got it to within one goal at 9-8 at the 7:30 mark of the third quarter before Marquette went on another 4-0 run to make it 13-8.
Niagara (1-4, 0-0 MAAC) was led by Maddy Gill, who had five goals.

Meg Bireley became the program leader in shots on goal with 294 for her career.
Meg Bireley moved into third on the all-time points list with 206 career points, passing Grace Gabriel who had 199 points from 2016-19.
Brynna Nixon notched her 24th win of her career, tying her with Jules Horning (2017-21) for most wins all-time in program history.
Marquette improves to 5-2 all-time against Niagara.
