
WBB Hangs On to Defeat St. John’s Wednesday Night, 57-55

Golden Eagles travel to Butler Sunday afternoon
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's basketball team continued BIG EAST play with a 57-55 win over St. John's on Wednesday night at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (15-7, 7-3 BIG EAST) were led by Skylar Forbes, who had a game-high 15 points and six rebounds. Lee Volker added 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with five rebounds and three assists. Halle Vice had eight points and ten rebounds.
Marquette got into a 10-3 hole early, but closed the first quarter on a 13-2 run. Kennedi Perkins had five of MU's 13 points in the run. The scoring stretch continued as Marquette opened the second quarter on a 11-2 run to grow the lead to double-digits at the break, 32-22.
The Golden Eagles were held to just nine points in the third quarter while shooting 18 percent from the field. MU held a two-point lead heading into the final frame, 41-39.
The Red Storm tied the game up at 41-41 at the 8:56 mark of the fourth quarter. There were three ties in the final frame and MU's largest lead was six with 1:42 remaining after an Olivia Porter 3-pointer. St. John's hit a three with 45 seconds left to make it a two-point game at 55-57 and had an opportunity to tie at the buzzer.
St. John's (13-10, 3-9 BIG EAST) was led by Ber'Nyah Mayo, who had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
