WBB Travels to James Madison for WBIT Second Round Sunday

The Marquette University women's basketball team plays No. 1 seed James Madison in the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament on Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m. CT in Harrisonburg.

ESPN+ features the broadcast. The winner of Sunday's matchup advances to face the winner of the Northern Arizona-Belmont game on Thursday, March 27.

MARQUETTE COMES BACK TO BEAT DRAKE IN FIRST ROUND

The Golden Eagles came back from being down 10 at the break to beat Drake, 74-69, in the first round of the WBIT on Thursday afternoon.
Halle Vice and Skylar Forbes had 18 points each.
Jaidynn Mason added 16 points and six assists with 14 points coming in the second half.
Marquette led by four, 20-16, after the first quarter. Halle Vice led all scorers with 10 points in the first frame. Drake outscored Marquette 24-10 in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
The Golden Eagles outscored Drake 25-16 in the third to make it a one-point game headed to the fourth.
There were four ties and one lead change in the fourth quarter. A Bridget Utberg three tied the game at 63 with 4:59 to go. MU took the lead after a Jaidynn Mason jumper with 3:39 remaining.
The Golden Eagles tied their largest lead of the game, leading 69-64 at the 1:56 mark before a 5-0 Drake Run tied it with 1:09 remaining. MU would hold Drake scoreless the rest of the way with a jumper from Mason and free throws from Forbes and Olivia Porter completing the comeback.

SCOUTING THE DUKES

James Madison is coming off a 77-50 win over Davidson in the first round of the WBIT on Thursday.
The Dukes have been a No. 1 seed in the WNIT the last two seasons.
Redshirt-junior guard Peyton McDaniel was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. Graduate student guard Ro Scott was named SBC Sixth Woman of the Year.
McDaniel averaged 16.0 points and 8.4 rebounds to anchor a JMU team that went 27-4 in the regular season with a perfect 18-0 mark in Sun Belt play.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST JAMES MADISON

Sunday will be the third meeting all-time between Marquette and Drake, with MU leading the series 2-0.
The programs have not met since the 1994-95 season, when MU won 81-65 at the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City, Iowa.
