Mendoza and Duva recorded two wins for the Golden Eagles
GRAND FORKS, N.D – The Marquette women's tennis team fell 5-2 to the University of North Dakota in Friday's matchup. The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point but secured two singles wins in the contest.
"I thought we played pretty well and competed well today," head coach Brett Barnett said. "To me this match comes down to missed opportunities when sets were tight. Â We were right there in doubles and got a little tentative at the end. Â Great job by Lu and Elena winning their matches and playing very well! Â We had four points out there, just couldn't close out sets. Â I'm looking for us to learn from this and play with more energy tomorrow."
Luciana Mendoza put the Golden Eagles on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Linn Svared.
Elena Duva took her win against Simone Cameron in three sets. Duva dropped the first set 7-6 but responded in the second earning a 6-2 victory. The third set was a super tiebreak with Duva sealing the point 10-7.
