Four players finish with double figures in points
The Marquette University men's basketball team (7-14, 2-8 BIG EAST) continued conference play Friday night with an 87-76 loss at Butler (13-7, 4-5 BIG EAST) in Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Sophomore forward Royce Parham finished with 14 points and freshman guard Nigel James Jr. chipped in 15 points and eight assists.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half before a rally late in the second half closed the gap to one possession entering the final media timeout. Marquette had a pair of 3-point attempts that would have tied the game, but with each miss the Bulldogs were able to respond and pull away for the win with a 13-4 run to close the game.
The Golden Eagles, who trailed by as many as nine points after Butler jumped out to a 13-4 lead, used a 13-4 run of their own to tie the game at 17-17 and trailed 41-36 at the break. Butler shot 50.0 percent from the floor, but the two teams combined to knock down just 3-of-23 from deep. Parham led all scorers with 12 first-half points.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles return to Fiserv Forum to host Creighton at 8:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Jan. 27 on TNT/truTV.
