The Golden Eagles recorded their third loss of the season
DEKALB, IL–The Marquette University women's tennis team dropped 6-1 to NIU Friday afternoon.
The Huskies opened the match by securing the doubles point taking a 1-0 lead.
Northern Illinois picked up three straight singles wins to clinch the team victory.
Marquette's lone point in the match came by way of a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win from Aiyana Abbott over Malika Kabdesh.
Coach Brett Barnett on the contest:
"Hard fought match by both teams. We went ball for ball with a team that won 20 plus matches last year and just beat Mizzou. Best by far we've competed as a team all year. We had chances everywhere in the match. Aiyana did a great job and I'm so proud of her for how she played and fought. This match came down to NIU pulling out close sets when they were behind. We have so much to gain from this and continue to grow as a team. If we compete like this tomorrow good things will happen."
