The Golden Eagles recorded their third loss of the season
DEKALB, IL–The Marquette University women's tennis team dropped 6-1 to NIU Friday afternoon.
The Huskies opened the match by securing the doubles point taking a 1-0 lead.
Northern Illinois picked up three straight singles wins to clinch the team victory.
Marquette's lone point in the match came by way of a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win from Aiyana Abbott over Malika Kabdesh.
Coach Brett Barnett on the contest:
"Hard fought match by both teams. We went ball for ball with a team that won 20 plus matches last year and just beat Mizzou. Best by far we've competed as a team all year. We had chances everywhere in the match. Aiyana did a great job and I'm so proud of her for how she played and fought. This match came down to NIU pulling out close sets when they were behind. Â We have so much to gain from this and continue to grow as a team. If we compete like this tomorrow good things will happen."
