Four Golden Eagles finish with double figures in points, including career-high from Stevens.
The Marquette University men's basketball team (9-15, 4-9 BIG EAST) continued conference play with a 70-55 win against Butler (13-11, 4-9Â BIG EAST) at Fiserv Forum Saturday afternoon on National Marquette Day.Â
Freshman Adrien Stevens ended with a career-high 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles, while senior Chase Ross finished with 19 points and four rebounds. Royce Parham (12) and Nigel James Jr. (16) joined Stevens and Ross in double-figures scoring.Â
MU jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead thanks to strong defense and a slam from James Jr., and continued to play strong defensively the opening 10 minutes. The Bulldogs fought back to take a brief lead, 25-22, before a trey from Stevens and a pair of James Jr. free throws put MU ahead, 32-28, at halftime.
The Golden Eagles finished the first and opened the second half with a 14-0 run to extend their lead, and a 22-9 run overall to jump out to a 54-37 advantage. The MU defense continued to play strong, and hot shooting from Stevens and Ross sealed the 15-point victory, 70-55, on National Marquette Day.
