Marquette Continues BIG EAST Action at Georgetown

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-1-5, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST play on Wednesday, as they travel to Washington, D.C., to face Georgetown (3-3-2, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) at Shaw Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and the match will stream on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Marquette opened BIG EAST play with a 1-1 draw at Butler on Sept. 26 at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl. The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, with Marquette holding a 7-4 advantage in shots.

Haley Christianson put Marquette ahead in the 75th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season off assists from Kaylie Sheehan and Lilly Coats. The Golden Eagles held the lead until Butler equalized with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Marquette finished with a 15-11 advantage in shots, while both teams recorded five shots on goal.

Youth Making an Impact
Marquette's freshman class has made an immediate impact throughout the 2026 season, with the Golden Eagles continuing to rely on their young talent as conference play gets underway. Six freshmen started in Marquette's 3-1 victory over Eastern Illinois on Sept. 19, while five freshmen earned starts in the following week's BIG EAST opener at Butler.

Five freshmen have now started at least three matches this season, led by goalkeeper Mia Hurd and midfielder Callie Hefner, who have each started all 10 matches.

The young Golden Eagles have continued to contribute on both ends of the field. Against Eastern Illinois, Kaylie Sheehan and Ava Jack Shaw recorded two assists, and Hurd made two saves in the 3-1 victory. Sheehan added another assist in the BIG EAST opener at Butler, while Hurd made four saves and Callie Hefner and Allessandra Russo each played all 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw.

Through 10 matches, Sheehan leads Marquette's freshman class with five points on one goal and three assists, while Hefner has four points on one goal and two assists and Jack Shaw has two assists.

Murray Returns From PWNT
Marquette junior forward Megan Murray returned to the Golden Eagles following a stint with the Philippine Women's National Team (PWNT) at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Murray missed four matches for Marquette against Baylor, Loyola, Eastern Illinois and Butler while representing the Philippines.

Murray made an immediate impact on the international stage, recording her first career international point with an assist in the Philippines' 2-0 victory over Hong Kong on Sept. 17. She entered as a substitute in the 57th minute and assisted on Mallie Ramirez's goal six minutes later. Murray also earned her first international start in the Philippines' final of the Asian Games against Japan.

Murray returns to Marquette after scoring three goals in the Golden Eagles' first six matches of the season, including a pair of goals in Marquette's 2-0 win at North Dakota State. She currently ranks second on the team with six points this season.

Anchoring the Back Line
While head coach Chris Allen has started multiple versions of the team's back line, Marquette has relied on a consistent trio along its back line, with sophomore Clare Shea and seniors Ella McAleenan and Lilly Coats starting every match this season. The trio has helped anchor a Golden Eagle defense that has allowed just six goals through 10 matches, ranking third in the BIG EAST with a 0.60 goals-against average.

The group has also contributed offensively, with Shea recording three assists, McAleenan tallying one goal and one assist and Coats adding one goal and one assist through the first 10 matches. Shea is tied for the team lead with three assists, including helpers on goals against St. Thomas, Wisconsin and Loyola.

Series with Hoyas Dates to 2007
Marquette's all-time series with Georgetown dates back to 2007, with the Golden Eagles holding a 3-13-1 record against the Hoyas.

The Hoyas have won the last 10 meetings between the two teams, with Marquette's last victory coming in 2013, when the Golden Eagles posted a 4-0 shutout in the grand opening of Valley Fields. The win came against a then-No. 6 Georgetown squad.
