Freshman (2001-02) -- Colson proved to be Marquette[apos]s most consistent and most successful golfer in his first season. He led MU in scoring six of nine times, culminating the regular season with a victory in the Billiken Invitational. Colson also had top five finishes in the Kauai Collegiate Cup (third) and John Piper Intercollegiate (fifth). He fired a 222 in his first collegiate event, the Butler Fall Invitational, finishing 14th. He posted a 218 finishing 13th at the Hillman Robbins Intercollegiate before his fifth place finish at John Piper. Colson had three rounds in the 60s as a freshman and had a season low of a 213 at the Kauai Collegiate Cup. He led MU in scoring in the regular season with a 74.11 average.
Prior to Marquette -- Colson was highly decorated during his four high school years at Plymouth. In both 2000 and 2001, he earned Wisconsin State Golf Association Boys[apos] Player of the Year. During his four seasons, Plymouth was conference champion each of his four years and was a state qualifier in his final year. He qualified as an individual each of the other four seasons. He was also a quarterfinalist at the WSGA Match Play championships in 2001. Academically, Colson was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish NHS clubs.
Personal -- Colson is the son of Sam and Cathy Colson. He is majoring in business finance. His father, Sam, was a track and field star at the University of Kansas and was a member of the 1976 Olympic team. Colson was born May 18, 1983.
