Golfers Slip to Eighth at Xavier Intercollegiate

Van Sickle leads team with ninth place finish

LOVELAND, Ohio ? Marquette struggled in the final round and fell to eighth place at the Xavier Intercollegiate. The Golden Eagles shot a final round 299, 13 strokes higher than its second round total, to conclude the tournament at five-over, 869.
Austin Peay won the tournament in a two-hole playoff over Xavier. Both teams finished the 54 holes at 21-under, 843.
The top finisher for Marquette was freshman Mike Van Sickle, his third straight event as the Marquette low score. He shot a five-under, 211 after shooting a final round 74.
Xavier's John Streibich won the event shooting 14-under, 202, finishing two shots better than Yoshio Yamamoto of Austin Peay.
Sophomore Ted Gray placed one spot behind Van Sickle as the only other MU golfer under par. He was four-under 212, finishing ninth.
Senior Nathan Colson placed 50th at six-over, 222. Fellow senior Joe Weber finished 78th, shooting 230. Steve Sass, another senior, finished 82nd at 231.
Marquette continues its season on October 22 and 23, competing in the Hoya Invitational in Washington, D.C.
