Strong final round moves MU up two spots

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. ? Thanks to the best final round score of the day, Marquette moved up from fifth to finish third at the Hoya Invitational at the Landsdowne Golf Center in Williamsburg, Va.
The Golden Eagles tied East Carolina with a 286 for the best team total in the final 18 holes. For the 36-hole event, Marquette shot eight-over, 584. The Golden Eagles were six shots behind first-place Eastern Michigan's 578. MU was four strokes behind second-place Maryland.
Senior Kyle Murphy was one stroke away from winning medalist honors. He shot 70 in both rounds, including the final round, totaling 140 (four-under par). He trailed Eastern Michigan's Graham Hill, who shot 139.
Senior Joe Weber finished 17th with a three-over, 147. Freshman Mike Van Sickle placed 25th with a five-over, 149. Sophomore Ted Gray shot 10 strokes better than his first round total, finishing at six-over, 150. Senior Nathan Colson rounded out the Marquette field, shooting eight-over 152.
The Golden Eagles continue their fall season with little break, playing tomorrow, October 24 with the two-day, 54-hole, 49er Collegiate Classic.
