WINTER GARDEN, Fla. ? The Marquette golf team moved from second to first to win the first ever BIG EAST/MAC Challenge, held in Winter Garden, Fla. The Golden Eagles shot a tournament best 276 in the final round to win the tournament by nine strokes. The win was MU's second tournament win of the season.
USF, the round two leader, shot a 290 in the final round enabling MU to take the tournament crown.
Mark Cimarolli held on to the lead, finishing the event at 207. Three Marquette golfers finished in the top 10, led by freshman Mike Van Sickle, who shot a final round 68 to finish at 211, in a tie for third.
Senior Nathan Colson and sophomore Ted Gray each tied for ninth, finishing at 215. Senior Kyle Murphy also finished in the top 20, placing 15th at 220. Senior Joe Weber rounded out the MU scoring, placing 27th at 223.
Competing as individuals, sophomore Chris Streff placed 56th, finishing at 234. Senior Steve Sass was in 58th at 237. Senior Mark Eldridge placed 60th at 241.
This event concludes the fall season for Marquette.
