All five MU starters carded sub par scores over the tournament's first 36 holes
WESTFIELD, Ind. — All five Marquette starters, led by Oliver Farrell (T-2) at 7-under-par, shot sub par 36 hole scores as the Golden Eagles cruised to an 18-under-par Sunday and the top spot on the leaderboard at the Chatham Hills Collegiate, hosted by Indiana.
Playing for the first time in 12 days, Marquette (274-284–558) leads Northwestern by two strokes and the host Hoosiers by five entering Monday's final round. The Golden Eagles are in search of their third win in four events.
MU's first round 274 on the Par 72, 7,215 Club at Chatham Hills was its fourth-lowest single-round score in program history, and lowest since the second round of the 2017 Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms.
Farrell (68-69—137) made 10 birdies in 36 holes on Sunday, and an eagle on the 554-yard Par 5 7th in the first round to sit four strokes off the lead pace set by Northwestern's David Nyfjall (11-under-par). Â
Hunter Eichhorn (69-70–139) made eight birdies and also made an eagle on No. 7 in the second round to shoot a 5-under-par 36 holes on Sunday, good for fifth place. Â
Matthew Bachmann, who missed three of the first four tournaments while recovering from an injury, went bogey-free over his first 16 holes while appearing in MU's starting five for the first time, to shoot a 4-under-par 68 in the first round. Bachmann (68-72—140) is tied for sixth at 4-under-par.
Tyler Leach (T-12, 2-under-par) and Matt Murlick (T-16, 1-under-par) helped round out MU's solid opening day.
Marquette birdied 40 holes on Sunday, third-most in the field.
The Golden Eagles will play with Northwestern and Indiana in the final round on Monday, with tee times beginning at 8:20 a.m. CT.
