The Golden Eagles resume action on Wednesday night against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Playing at Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee, the No. 22 Marquette University women's basketball team rolled to a 96-32 victory over the University of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday afternoon.Â
The game was the first for the Golden Eagles (4-1) at the venue, which is home to the men's basketball program and the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks. Amani Wilborn posted a game-high 18 points, while classmates Allazia Blockton and Natisha Hiedeman added 17 and 16 points, respectively.
The 32 points allowed is the lowest opponent point total of MU head coach Carolyn Kieger's tenure and the lowest allowed for an MU team since a 68-19 victory over Vermont on Dec. 4, 2010.
The Flames (1-3) shot just 18.2 percent for the game (10-of-55) and made just two field goals in each of the game's first two quarters.Â
Blockton led all players with 11 points at the half as the Golden Eagles led 56-14 after holding UIC to 14.8 percent shooting from the floor (4-of-27). Blockton picked up three early fouls to start the game and played just under eight minutes in the opening half. Hiedeman added 10 points at the break, including an NBA 3-pointer late in the second quarter.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 28 against Milwaukee. The game was originally slated for the Al McGuire Center, but the location is still yet to be determined. More information will be made available in the coming days.Â
