The Golden Eagles will host Mississippi State for their final exhibition match on Sunday
GREEN BAY, Wisconsin – Carrie Madden scored in the 10th minute and Abby Hess added a late 90th minute tally as the Marquette University women's soccer team topped Green Bay, 2-0, on Monday evening in its 2018 exhibition opener.
The Golden Eagles were the aggressor early, resulting in a number of early looks including Madden's marker. The All-BIG EAST First Team forward struck from 10 yards on a great cross from left back Emily Hess, who tried setting up Madden again four minutes later but was just long.
Freshman midfielder Katrina Wetherell, who started alongside seniors Ryley Bugay and Leah Celarek in the midfield, had MU's first good look of the match in the fourth minute, but missed high on a ball slotted through the box by Abby Hess from the right flank.
Marquette head coach Markus Roeders used liberal substitutions in both halves, getting ample minutes for the freshmen and keeping the minutes manageable for his returning veterans.
Starting XI
F – Abby Hess, Jamie Kutey, Carrie Madden
MF – Ryley Bugay, Leah Celarek, Katrina Wetherell
D – Emily Hess, Allison Jacobson, Bri Jaeger, Maddie Monticello
GK – Maddy Henry
Substitutions: Madison Burrier, Maura Weaver, Mary Kate Simon, Heather Handwork, Josie Fowler, Katie Koker, Macey Shock, Alyssa Bombacino, Bonnie Lacey, Erin Johnston, Maggie Lena, Madeline Warren
