Oliver Farrell, Hunter Eichhorn among the 10 players to shoot under par on Sunday
ERIN, Wis. — Oliver Farrell and Hunter Eichhorn carded 1-under-par 71s, tied for seventh place, to lead Marquette to a fourth place start in the first round of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills on Sunday.
With a 1-over-par 289, the Golden Eagles are three shots off the lead pace set by Northwestern, which shot a 2-under-par score on Sunday.
Marquette posted a tournament-best 20 birdies, including 11 on the back nine. Farrell was 4-under-par before closing the round with three bogeys, while Eichhorn had three birdies for his afternoon, highlighted by a bogey-free back nine.
Austin Kendziorski (75) and Nate Thomson (Ind., 75) made eagles in round one - Kendziorski's was on the Par 5, 675-yard 10th, while Thomson did it on the Par 5, 613-yard 14th.
Charlie Maleki opened with a 72, tied for second among individual players.
Marquette's five-man lineup goes off on No. 1 at 9 a.m. CT on Monday as part of a threesome with Ole Miss and Utah.
