
Marquette Opens Dual Campaign With Pair of 7-0 Wins

MU sweeps Northern Illinois and Green Bay
The Marquette women's tennis team opened the 2019 home season with a back-to-back 7-0 sweeps against Northern Illinois and Green Bay on Saturday, Jan. 26.

In the first match against the Huskies, the Golden Eagles (2-0) secured the doubles point to get the ball rolling. Milica Novakovic and Fleur Eggnik earned a 6-3 win on court No. 1, Natalija Popovic and Lesley Foe claimed a win at position No. 2 with a 6-2 score and Isabella Franks and Alexandrina Chinikova finished on court No. 3 with a 6-4 victory.

In singles action, MU kept up the dominant performance winning on every court, with Popovic on court No. 1 taking the matchup 6-2, 7-6, and Eggink on court No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Later, in competition against the Phoenix, the Golden Eagles continued their dominant performance, taking the doubles point with victories on every court, including a shutout on court No. 3 from Chinikova and Franks.

Marquette pushed their momentum in singles play, again taking every court, with only one close call as Chinikova secured the first leg 7-6.

The Golden Eagles will be heading to Madison to battle cross-state foe Wisconsin this Friday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. CT.
