Isabelle Spingola and Lauren Van Kleunen each scored 18 points for MU
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season to Northwestern on Wednesday night, falling 64-56 in overtime at the Al McGuire Center.

The veteran backcourt combination of Isabelle Spingola and Lauren Van Kleunen scored 18 points apiece to lead the way for the Golden Eagles (3-1), who overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to send the game into overtime.

Spingola netted 15 points in the second half on a scorching 5-of-7 performance from three-point range. She hit a season-high six threes on the night to supplement MU's offensive attack.

Northwestern (2-0) jumped out to an eight-point lead late in the first half and led by as many as 10 points, holding the Golden Eagles to just 29 percent shooting through the first 20 minutes as they took a 25-17 lead into the halftime break.

MU found its groove in the second half, shooting 52 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range. Spingola and freshman Jordan King combined to hit six of their 11 three-point attempts in the third and fourth quarters to pace MU on offense.

The Golden Eagles grabbed their first lead of the game at 37-36 with 9:01 left to play and the game went back-and-forth for the final minutes of regulation. MU held a 51-49 lead with 10 seconds to play, but NU's Veronica Burton hit a floater with four seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

The Wildcats outscored the Golden Eagles 13-5 in the extra session, led by nine points from guard Lindsey Pulliam, who scored a team-high 18 points on the evening.

Besides Pulliam, NU had three other players total double-figure scoring nights.

King chipped in eight points for MU while Altia Anderson had six points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
