3/1/2019 10:30:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Hiedeman and Wilborn pave the way with over 20 points each
OMAHA, Neb.—The No. 13/12 Marquette women's basketball team suffered just its third loss in BIG EAST play on Friday evening as the Golden Eagles fell, 71-65 at Creighton.
Natisha Hiedeman and Amani Wilborn combined for 22 and 21 points, respectively to lead Marquette (23-6, 14-3), while Danielle King grabbed 10 boards. Hiedeman and freshman Chloe Marotta each pulled down seven rebounds.
The Golden Eagles shot just 36.2 percent (25-69) from the floor, but outscored the Bluejays (14-14, 8-9) in the paint, 34-26.
After a slow start, which included a 20-0 run by Creighton, Marquette matched the Bluejays in both the second and third quarters before buckling down and outscoring Creighton 23-16 in the fourth frame, including 17 points in five minutes.
Creighton was led by Audrey Faber with 24 points, while Jaylyn Agnew and Temi Carda hit 15 and 11 points, respectively in the game.
Marquette has locked in the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament and has claimed at least a share of the regular season title, but a final win would give the Golden Eagles the outright crown. MU will conclude the regular season on Sunday, March 3 at Providence with tip-off slated for 12 p.m. CT.
