The Golden Eagles look to extend their winning streak
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team continues its spring break road swing through western New York with an 11 a.m. Central time game at Niagara on Sunday, March 17.

MARQUETTE (5-4): The Golden Eagles have claimed 19-8 victories in each of their last two games and are on the sixth game of seven-straight away from home. MU defeated Canisius in its last game on Friday afternoon behind five goals from Charlotte McGuire and four from Grace Gabriel, who is playing in her home region of western New York. Gabriel leads Marquette with 33 points on 30 goals and three assists, while McGuire is close behind with 31 points (28 goals, 3 assists).
NIAGARA (3-4): The Purple Eagles are in the midst of a four-game losing streak after beginning the year with three-straight victories. Most recently, NU fell to UMass, 25-11, on Wednesday after giving up separate 8-0 and 9-0 runs in the defeat. Rachel MacCheyne leads Niagara with 32 points on 31 goals and a single assist, while Caroline Crum has 15 goals and seven assists on the season. Each of NU's last four losses have come on the road and Sunday is its first home game since Feb. 23 against Central Connecticut State.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's matchup marks the second meeting between the Golden Eagles and Purple Eagles. MU previously defeated NU, 23-15, in Milwaukee on March 3, 2018.
GABRIEL GETS RECOGNITION
Marquette senior midfielder Grace Gabriel was tabbed the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Last season, Gabriel became Marquette's all-time leader in goals, shots and draw controls. She set program records with 56 goals and 107 draw controls as a junior and earned BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year. The Lancaster, New York native was also picked as a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2017 and 2018, alongside an IWLCA Second Team All- American selection.
SOCCODATO AND MCGUIRE HIT 100
Senior attack Cate Soccodato tallied six assists on Friday, Feb. 15 against Cincinnati to propel her past the 100 career point mark. She's the eighth all-time Marquette women's lacrosse player to reach the feat and currently has 119 career points (No. 7 all-time). Current roster members Grace Gabriel (2nd; 167) and Charlotte McGuire (8th; 105) also rank top-10 in career points at Marquette.
