
Lacrosse falls 13-9 to No. 9 Ohio State in Patriot Cup

The Golden Eagles return home next to face Cleveland State on March 9
DALLAS – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team fell, 13-9, to No. 9 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in the Patriot Cup at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Tanner Thomson, Andrew Romagnoli and Connor McClelland each scored twice for the Golden Eagles (2-2), who were outshot 40-31.
Jackson Reid scored a game-high five goals for the undefeated Buckeyes (5-0) and sophomore faceoff specialist Justin Inacio won 18-of-25 at the dot.
Romagnoli scored the game's first goal midway through the first quarter, but it was Ohio State which reeled off the next four scores until Romagnoli's second with 9:20 left in the second. Freshman Holden Patterson added an extra-man tally late in the second for MU and the Buckeyes took an 6-3 lead into the half.
The Golden Eagles and Buckeyes then alternated goals until late in the fourth when OSU expanded its lead to 12-8 on Tre Leclaire's third goal with 5:23 remaining. Marquette pulled within two on seven occasions after OSU built a 4-1 lead, but could not get any closer as the Buckeyes answered each time.
Senior long-stick midfielder Noah Richard was forced into duty at the face-off X and scrapped his way to six face-off wins, four ground balls and a goal.
Sophomore goalie Gabe Stein made five saves in his first career start, while John Hulsman also stopped five OSU shots.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 9 against Cleveland State in Milwaukee.
