Marquette enters final round play on Sunday in fifth place (+6)
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Oliver Farrell posted a 6-under-par 36-hole day (67-71–138), tied for second, to lead Marquette in its 6-over-par fifth place start on Saturday at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, hosted by Michigan at the Outlaw Course.
Farrell enters final round play on Sunday three shots off the 9-under-par pace set by Mississippi State's Ford Clegg - the Bulldogs lead play at 17-under-par, 11 shots better than second place Northwestern.
Farrell's day included eight birdies and a second round eagle - he extended a streak over his last five events where 11 of his 14 rounds have been below par.
Hunter Eichhorn posted a pair of 71s to finish the first two rounds 2-under-par (71-71—142), making 10 birdies to sit in ninth place and seven shots back entering Sunday's final round.
The Golden Eagles shot 1-over-par in the second round (293-289—582) of their second event this spring. Marquette made a field-best three eagles, including two from Austin Kendziorski (T43, 74-78-152), and finished second in the 12-team field with 37 birdies in the first two rounds.
Marquette opens final round play tomorrow starting at 8:39 a.m. Mountain time, in a playing group with Kansas and Miami (Ohio).
