The Golden Eagles drop just one point in a doubleheader on Saturday
MILWAUKEE-- The Marquette women's tennis team opened dual play on a high note as the Golden Eagles picked up two wins on Saturday, topping UIC 6-1 before blanking Green Bay, 7-0 in an afternoon match.
Against the Flames Marquette (2-0) got on the board early with the doubles point, winning all three matches. In singles action Fleur Eggink won at the top position as Milica Novakovic won at No. 2, Natalija Popovic claimed a victory at the No. 3 position and Isabella Franks and Elisabeth Desmarais won at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
In the afternoon contest, MU was dominant. Eggink and Giulia Turconi earned a 6-2 win at the top spot, while Popovic and Tiana Windbuchler claimed a 6-2 win at the No. 2 position. Elizabeth Ferdman and Lesley Foe teamed for the final spot and earned a 6-4 win.
In singles play, Eggink won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1 as Popovic made quick work on the No. 2 court with a 6-0, 6-2 decision. Turconi fought to earn a 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 win at the No. 3 position, while Foe also fought through to a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 victory at No. 4. Ferdman and Tiana Windbuchler made their dual debuts at Helfaer and earned victories to preserve the sweep over the Phoenix.
