Redshirt senior Koby McEwen paced the Golden Eagles (2-1) with 21 points and four assists. Senior Jamal Cain had his first career double-double at MU, tallying 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
The Cowboys now lead the all-time series 5-1 and are 2-0 in Milwaukee.Â
Notables:
- In the last meeting, MU took a 91-61 win at the Maui Invitational in 2007.
- Two of the nation's top freshmen squared off in MU's Dawson Garcia and OSU's Cade Cunningham. Cunningham is viewed by many as the No. 1 prospect for the 2021 NBA Draft.Â
- Marquette started the game on a 14-4 run, with five players appearing in the scoring column early.
- Redshirt freshman Dexter Akanno, who sat out his freshman year to focus on development, made his NCAA debut in the first half.
- The Cowboys went on an 18-2 run halfway through the first half to give OSU its first lead.
- Both teams turned the ball over at a high clip in the first half, with MU giving it away 13 times and the Cowboys 10.
- The Golden Eagles scored just nine points in the first 13 minutes of the second half, and shot just 8-for-31 in the half.
- Freshman Justin Lewis totaled 13 rebounds with nine coming in the first half.
- Senior Theo John added seven points and eight rebounds.
